What is Class IV Summus Laser Therapy?
Class IV laser is the most powerful laser therapy available today. It is also called IV laser therapy or photobiomodulation that promotes an improved range of motion. Back Clinics of Canada was the first clinic in Canada to offer Class IV Summus laser treatment. This high power therapy reduces pain and inflammation. It also heals damaged soft tissue from the inside out. The laser uses specific wavelengths of light to trigger healing at the cellular level — making it one of the most effective treatment options for chronic back and neck pain.
Why Class IV Laser Therapy is Different
Have you tried cold medical lasers or physiotherapy with little success? Those treatments don’t go deep enough to reach chronic spinal injuries. Class 4 laser therapy changes that.
Our Class IV Summus system delivers up to 24 watts of power. That’s hundreds of times more than a standard Class III laser. Here’s what makes it stand out:
Accelerated Healing — 3x to 5x Faster Inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain all decrease.
Deep Penetration: Class IV laser light penetrates up to 4 inches into the spine. Standard lasers only reach the surface.
Cellular Level Relief: The laser floods damaged discs, nerves, and inflamed joints with healing light energy. This speeds up tissue repair 3x to 5x faster and delivers lasting reduced pain.
Proven Technology: Dr. Nusbaum uses this FDA-cleared system to treat severe back and neck pain — including post surgical cases — even when other therapies have failed.
Increased Cellular Function Nutrients pass more easily across the cell membrane.
Improved Blood Circulation Increased blood flow brings water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged disc.

How Class IV Summus Laser Therapy Works
This laser treatment is one of three steps in our High-Performance Healing System™. It follows spinal decompression and icing. Before each session, Dr. Nusbaum selects the exact location, frequency, and duration of the IV laser therapy. Everything is tailored to the patient.
A trained technician then applies the class IV laser to the affected spinal discs for up to 10 minutes. The specific wavelengths of light start a chain of healing events. Cellular activity increases. Blood flow improves. Pain drops. Inflammation fades.
For soft tissue injuries, wound healing speeds up significantly. This therapy works especially well for disc herniations, nerve compression, and chronic inflammation that hasn’t responded to other treatments.
